Though I'm nearly 2 months late with this (how did that happen?) I just wanted to say...yes. It is truly wonderful to have a mate who shares the heavy (and light) lifting. I do not know how I'd manage here without my other half, and we've achieved, over the years, a nice balance of who takes on what responsibilities.

We have gradually gravitated so that each of us has taken on the things that we are strongest at, and that works. I'm good at finding and pulling weeds, for example, and he's really great at driving the tractor. So it keeps the place running and keeps us knowing that we are contributing from our strengths.

However, we didn't achieve that balance right away - it has been over a decade in the making - so when you begin building with a new partner, have patience and just keep communicating.

And DEFINITELY 86 that 50's housewife standard thing - that's a no-win proposition!!

Give up comparing yourself to the 50's housewife, you know they were all strung out on valium to get through it. Do you really feel that they were happier ? A cleaner house yes...but happier....I seriously doubt it. Besides, our four legged friends dont care if there's lint on your sills, dirt on your windows or dishes in the sink. They don't care if you're wearing those ugly pants, there's dirt under your fingernails or you have the most horrendous split ends, they love you for yourself (and 'coz you fix them dinner, give them massages and pedicures, scoop the poop....) ah, if my Mum could see me now. Just dont let her see my dirty house or wreck of a back yard :)

Ace IS the place. I love that store. But I'd be the one taking the lights back. I'd probably make K come with me, though. He's the fussy one when it comes to decorating. ; - )

And to heck with the 50s housewife paradigm. It's impossible to achieve. There's enough stress in life without having to fulfill that, too, despite the urge that's been implanted, seemingly, in our very DNA.
